I love this WHOLE article Kate 🤩 Your desires ARE sacred 💕 I can’t believe how many religious texts say desires are dirty. I swear when I tried to *not* have desires and just *be* it felt like I wasn’t moving anywhere with my life…Yes obviously *be* in appreciation over everything in your life but desires is what keeps your upward spiral, spiraling 🥰 Have you read the summary of “A Course in Miracles” which is “A Return to Love” by Marianne Williamson? SO GOOOOOOD! I’ve skimmed through “A Course in Miracles” but “A Return to Love” was my favoooorrrriiiite book (:

There is a really nice message here. Being allowed to want without being tugged along in terms of self worth. I think that’s why all the gurus say to kill your wants and desires. Because they pull at our self worth. I think you found the moment in the middle. Where self worth gets attached to negative outcomes. Not getting what we want.

This is very well written.

Thank you so much! And yes, I completely get why they say that because self-worth largely is at the core of it. And it's tricky because so much of being human is tied to the desire for approval and acceptance. But of course we'll find that if we base our sense of worth on getting the fancy car/house/job title, the satisfaction will be fleeting at best.

That desire to fit in, it’s ancient. The tribe protects us. But it’s like that desire was (intentionally?) pointed to things. I think in a consumer culture, maybe that is the “in” crowd. Being part of that tribe means Having more and nicer stuff.

Sure. But what are your thoughts? Also, I understand that sentiment. But I believe it is how we relate to desire that can cause suffering (as opposed to desire itself). Not being able to appreciate what you have because you're so preoccupied with what you believe you don't have. Equating your self-worth with a goal or an object (as I described) or believing you'll never be happy until you have this thing. Obviously, these are subjective concepts, so it all comes down to how we perceive and relate to them. Thank you for commenting and giving me an opportunity to expand on these ideas :)
